“My work at MVP is a natural culmination of my life experiences.”
Clark Spencer joined the company in February of 1997. At that time the company had only 17 units with approximately $11 million in revenues. It would grow aggressively over the next ten years through both market acquisitions and with the building of new locations. The company grew, achieving a scope as large as 105 units, $94 million in revenues, and 3,200 employees in 2007. As of 2017, MVP has a market of 99 stores in 3 states and 4,300 employees and are still growing.
A CPA, Clark previously worked as a public accountant for KPMG. Prior to coming to MVP SONIC GROUP, he worked in the Business Banking section of Deposit Guaranty Bank (now Regions).
Clark met Buddy McClain in 1996 when McClain and his partner Bruce Vaughn were making plans to grow their SONIC Drive-In franchise group aggressively over the next five years. They needed someone who could manage the accounting, compliance, cash management, and financing challenges that this expansion would create. Clark joined McClain Sonics and spearheaded several technological initiatives that helped automate accounting functions that reduced staffing needed for payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger while improving efficiency.
In 2003, Clark approached a developer with an idea for software that could help the multi-unit company meets its needs for payroll, HR compliance and other processing needs. Cameron Arcemont and Clark formed Arc Technologies, L.L.C., and created the paperless, workflow software named “Eight.”
The MVP SONIC GROUP was the first to adopt the software “Eight” which enables compliance with federal and state employment laws, includes automated E-verify, and effectively facilitates employee onboarding, terminations, discipline documentation, and status changes. It is sold via subscription and now used by multi-unit operators in multiple industries throughout the United States.
Clark’s father and grandfather were in the hotel and restaurant business their entire lives. In the summer of 1975 at the age of 12, Clark began working at his father’s local restaurant, Poet’s in Jackson, MS. This was a job he would continue to work most of his summers growing up. For Clark, his work at MVP is a natural culmination of his life experiences in the fields of accounting, finance and hospitality.
Spencer holds a BBA from the University of Mississippi, as well as a Certificate of Accounting from Mississippi College. He, his wife Susan, and their two children live in Ridgeland, MS.
